Job Title - Cleaning Operative

Reporting To - Human & Infrastructure Resources (HIR) Coordinator

Role Purpose 

The Cleaning Operative is a hands-on role requiring daily cleaning tasks to maintain high standards of hygiene and presentation whilst overseeing and coordinating all cleaning operations across the site, ensuring high standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and maintenance in office spaces, warehouse areas, canteen facilities, and customer-facing areas. This role plays a key part in maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for employees and visitors, including supporting hospitality events by prioritising cleaning.

Key Responsibilities


Cleaning Operations & Quality

• Plan and coordinate daily cleaning rotas and schedules for the cleaning team.

• Monitor and maintain high standards of cleanliness across all areas.

• Ensure timely response to special cleaning requirements (e.g., hospitality events).

Industry-Standard Responsibilities to Include

• Conduct regular inspections to ensure compliance with cleaning standards.

• Manage inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment.

• Train cleaning staff on procedures, safety, and quality standards.

• Respond promptly to urgent cleaning requests or incidents.

• Ensure waste disposal and recycling processes are followed correctly.

Health & Safety Compliance

• Ensure safe handling and storage of cleaning chemicals in line with COSHH regulations.

• Conduct regular checks to ensure compliance with health and safety standards.

• Maintain risk assessments and safety documentation for cleaning activities.

Continuous Improvement

• Identify opportunities to improve cleaning processes and efficiency.

• Implement best practices and innovative solutions for hygiene and maintenance.

Documentation & Reporting

• Maintain accurate records of cleaning activities and schedules.

• Oversee maintenance logs for cleaning equipment and ensure timely servicing.

• Keep COSHH documentation up to date.

Collaboration

• Work closely with the HIR Coordinator and other departments to align cleaning priorities with business needs.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

Essential:

• Proven experience in cleaning operations.

• Knowledge of COSHH regulations and safe chemical handling.

• Strong organisational and scheduling skills.

• Ability to lead and coordinate a small team effectively.

• Good communication and collaboration skills.

• Understanding of health and safety standards in a workplace environment.

Desirable:

• Experience in industrial or multi-site cleaning environments.

• Familiarity with continuous improvement methodologies.

• Basic IT skills for documentation and reporting.
