Customer profile

The customer owns and operates part of Britain’s transport infrastructure. The organisation strives to provide Britain with a safe, reliable and efficient transport network fit for the 21st Century.  It is responsible for running, maintaining and developing this national transport network.

Customers challenge

The customer wanted to find a way to reduce annual expenditure on new IT desktop equipment by extending the useful life of hardware through a refurbishment and redeployment program. In addition during the process of consolidating multiple office locations into a new larger single head office site, this created a large volume of IT equipment which was no longer required and needed be collected and disposed of in the right way.

RDC solution

The customer partnered with RDC to implement and deliver an improved asset recovery solution. Using dedicated service management RDC works with the customer to plan, schedule and deliver an end to end solution for the handling and processing of used equipment.  RDC helped the customer develop a solution to facilitate the reuse of equipment that meets agreed criteria.  Items which do not meet the agreed criteria are either resold to generate value back to the customer or recycled with 0% landfill.  The service includes a full audit trail and reporting for every piece of equipment handled and processed.


Through the redeployment of equipment the customer has been able to achieve substantial savings versus the cost of purchasing new equipment.  Data security risks are managed through the use of government approved eradication software and removal of user markings.  100% of items are removed from customer sites and diverted from landfill through reuse of working equipment and environmental recycling of non-functioning units.
